[edit] Purpose

This template is for creating a properly-formatted reference citation to to articles in Billiards Digest magazine, frequently cited in cue sports articles (see WikiProject Cue sports for more information). It is almost always used inside <ref name="BDMag YYYY-XX"></ref> (with the date). The benefit of the template is that it automatically provides the publisher, issn, location, and journal parameters of {{Cite journal}} for you.

The template uses the same (relevant) parameter names as {{Cite journal}}. The title, month and year parameters are required. If accessdate is not specified, today's date will be used. If the cited item is a regular feature (such as a mini-column), use the feature's name as the title, e.g. title=Calendar. If the feature has no by-line, simply omit the first and last parameters. This template does not use the name parameter; use first and last.

This template cannot be subst'd, unless this is done before it is put inside <ref...></ref> (due to a bug in the <ref> and <references /> system). There is no particular reason to subst it anyway.

If you need to cite the same source in the same article more than once, use <ref name="BDMag YYYY-XX">" /> for the subsequent citations. See {{rp}} if a page number is needed in subsequent citations.

If only one page or page range needs to be cited in this source in the article, simply add the page number(s) with the pages parameter (with "p." or "pp.").

The url parameter of {{Cite journal}} is present not supported, because BD magazine articles are not at stable URLs on their website. For stable BilliardsDigest.com material such as their "Headstring News" feed, use {{Cite web}}. Any citations to actual BD magazine articles must be to the paper magazine, as no WP:V / WP:RS benefit will come to an article from adding sources to it that simply disappear in a month when the ephemeral article copies available at BilliardsDigest.com change again.
