[edit] Cuprum probatum?
The article says: >>>>In exchange, according to a secret Anglo-Ottoman agreement, the Ottomans were to be allowed to occupy Cyprus - "Cuprum probatum".
I couldn't find anything about this "Cuprum probatum" secret agrrement anywhere else. It is only mentioned in one Turkish site. In 1878 the Ottomans gave Cyprus to the British, so it doesn't make sense.
- seems that it has been now changed to "British were allowed to occupy Cyprus...", but what is the relation of Cyprus to Batumi is unclear. Seems that they threw Batumi (somewhat remote to Cyprus) in the agreement to sweeten the deal... - Alsandro · T · w:ka: Th · T 12:40, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
