[edit] Fatalities' names

We may need to remove the names of the fatalities and injured (the section at least, except for the notable one). There may be some privacy issues and WP is not a memorial. Opinions? -- • Kurt Guirnela •Talk 10:15, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, get rid of it, simply state there were # fatalities, incl. Akbar and # injuries incl. the 2 representatives. --Howard the Duck 10:46, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
The names of all the injured and killed have been widely published in the media, so there's no privacy issue in putting them here. And listing their names doesn't make it a memorial. Note that all the names are listed at the Columbine massacre article. TheCoffee 14:49, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal to rename article title

I propose the article be moved to Batasang Pambansa bombing, as this event is the only instance that an explosion has occurred in the Philippine National Assembly. O

How about future events? --Howard the Duck 02:56, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
If another explosion occurs, then that's the time we add the year (or date) to the article title. As examples, the PhilSports Arena stampede, Columbine High School massacre and USS Cole bombing didn't have any indicators of time on their article names. O —Preceding comment was added at 03:09, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
How about 2001 Indian Parliament attack, 2002 Zamboanga bombing, 2003 Istanbul bombings, 2004 Madrid train bombings, 2004 SuperFerry 14 bombing, 2005 Bali bombings, 2006 Bangkok bombings? It seems when the event is a bombing, a year is added at the article title. --Howard the Duck 03:15, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
To muddle the argument some more, not all bombings have the year in them and it's not a style guideline. See Rizal Day bombings. It's not 2000 Rizal Day bombings. --seav 03:21, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
I believe some of these should also be renamed, then. Note, too, that most of the mentioned articles have titles that refer to regions (Bangkok, Zamboanga, Istanbul, Bali) and not a specific location (Columbine High School, USS Cole, PhilSports Arena). Perhaps further discussion could be introduced to your Tambayan. O 03:29, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
That's because the name has stuck, if a name sticks for this article in the long run (not after a half-a-week), then it'll be ok to move this. There are several names for this event, with or without the year, or the word "pambansa":
  • Batasang Pambansa bombing
  • Batasang Pambansa blast
  • Batasang Pambansa explosion
  • Wahab Akbar assasination, etc.
To move the article to a another name at this moment is unhelpful, it'll be better if things settle down. Also, the NPA has been targeting the Batasan for ages so there's a good reason why this should stay with a year indicator for the meantime. --Howard the Duck 03:34, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't care either way, but I'll raise you a WP:CRYSTAL. (Though I may be raising it inappropriately. Hehehe.) But seriously, arguing for inclusion of the year in the article's name for an event like a bombing because there *might* be future events like that is not a good reason. --seav 03:19, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
The article was at "2007 Batasang Pambansa bombing," there is no reason to move it to another title when there's nothing inherently wrong with the title. What can be done is to add more information that'll benefit the article rather than discuss for a move that not benefit anything or anyone. --Howard the Duck 03:23, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, it can stay at its current title for the meantime. We can rename it when we see how the media references it in the future. --seav 03:30, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Further confusing matters... the target of the blast apparently wasn't even the Batasang Pambansa itself, just Rep. Akbar. If that turns out to be the case, we might want to scrap/de-emphasize the "Congress' agenda" section. TheCoffee (talk) 19:26, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes go ahead... also if this article will be renamed, I'd rather deemphasize the place so it'll be like "Batasan bombing" or even be merged with Akbar's article if there's an extreme measure to be done. --Howard the Duck 02:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arrest

So, from delay of the case due to the writ of habeas corpus, now the cases are clear: the judge already issued the warrant of arrest not surprisingly against big fish: On April 28, 2008, Judge Lee issued the warrant and ordered the arrest of former Basilan Representative Gerry Salapuddin, Police Officer 1 Bayan Judda, Jaharun Jamiri and Benjamin Hataman, all indicted with multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder cases before the court.[1] --Florentino floro (talk) 05:42, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I added this latest indictment: Jamiri Hajirun y Usman, ex- mayor of Tuburan, Basilan was indicted for violation of Section 2 of Republic Act 8294 (Illegal possession of explosives) before Manila RTC, on May 15, 2008, and P200,000 bail was recommended for his release.GMA NEWS.TV, Batasan blast: Ex-mayor charged for possession of explosives --Florentino floro (talk) 09:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
