The battle took place in Mount Tabocas, in the Hereditary Captaincy of Pernambuco, on August 3, 1645, and was won by the Luso-Brazilian forces. The battle was a first major victory in the nine-year period of war that would lead to the retreat of the Dutch from Northeastern Brazil.
