The Battle of Maychew was the last major battle of the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, consisting of a failed counter-attack by Haile Selassie's forces against the Italian invaders. It was fought near Maychew, Ethiopia in the modern region of Tigray.
On March 31, 1936, a counter-attack using 40,000 of Selassie's best and last troops against the Italians was proposed. Word of the attack was leaked however, and the Italian forces crushed them.
