The Battle of Garigliano was fought on December 29, 1503 between a Spanish army under Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba and a French army commanded by Ludovico II, Marquis of Saluzzo. Córdoba launched a surprise attack against the unsuspecting French during a freezing cold rainstorm and decisively defeated them, bringing an end to significant French resistance in Naples.
