Basij (Afghan student organization)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Summary of Evidence memo prepared for Guantanamo captive Aminullah Baryalai Tukhi's Administrative Review Board hearing stated that he was a member of an anti-Taliban student organization named Basij.[1]

The organization is notable because the section of Tukhi's memo devoted to "primary factors [that] favor release or transfer" stated:[1]

"The detainee was in a student political organization called "Basij", which was not popular in Afghanistan and it was against the Taliban."
