Basail is located at 24.2167° N 90.0500° E . It has 27481 units of house hold and total area 157.78 km².

As of 1991 Bangladesh census^[1], Basail has a population of 148555. Males constitute are 50.97% of the population, and females 49.03%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 77918. Basail has an average literacy rate of 32.8% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[2]
