[edit] Spelling
Hi Example,
I noticed that you changed the spelling in Example from American to British . I'll first assure you that I am not going to revert it, so there is no revert war brewing. But I thought I would gently (and hopefully without annoying you) point out the provisions of WP:ENGVAR to you, in case you hadn't seen them. The upshot (with some minor exceptions) is that Americans should leave British spellings alone when they see them, and speakers of the "Queen's English" should do the same with Americanized spelling. To do otherwise encourages mindless edit wars that ultimately achieve nothing, and leave bad feelings all around. I recently saw an editor lose his nomination to be an admin partly because an innocent change of "travelling" to "traveling" was deemed "Ameri-centric".
My two cents/pence. --barneca (talk) 22:26, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome
Hi Example, Welcome to Wikipedia.
I occasionally review changes to articles of interest to me, and I notice you've made several edits to Example. If these are tests to see how the software works, can I ask that you use WP:sandbox instead, instead of experimenting in articles? If these are not tests, but are attempts to add information, then that's not a problem; take your time to work out what you want to add, but be aware that other editors might delete your additions if it looks like they're not going anywhere; I may delete them myself in a while if it looks like you've moved on.
When an editor is editing anonymously, it's hard to tell if they are new to Wikipedia or not. If you are new, and you have any questions, please feel free to leave me a message, or visit the Wikipedia:Introduction page. If you're not new at this, or if you simply want to do things on your own, I'll leave you alone. Enjoy your work. --barneca (talk) 13:42, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome and revert
Hi Example, welcome to Wikipedia. I really hate to pounce on your first edit, but something seems to have gone wrong, and I’ve reverted your recent edit to Article.
Sorry for the length of this message, but since you haven’t been here before, it’s hard to tell if this was a test, a mistake, if you’re editing in pieces and weren’t done, or if this was vandalism. And there's always the very real possibility that I've made a mistake.
-
- If it was a test edit, please experiment in the sandbox instead of in articles. You can do anything you like in the sandbox (within reason), without people like me sticking our noses in.
- If it was a mistake, don’t worry about it. Wiki’s make reversing mistakes easy. If you were about to revert your own mistake and I beat you to it, sorry for jumping the gun.
- If you are doing things in stages, please use an edit summary explaining what you’re doing, and people who see your edit will give you time to finish up. In fact, it’s a good idea to ‘’’always’’’ use an edit summary to explain your edit.
- If it was vandalism, well, please don’t do that. It takes a lot of effort to revert vandalism, and it can get you blocked from editing articles.
- Finally, if I've reverted a legitimate edit by mistake, please feel free to put it back, but make sure to use an edit summary or leave an explanation on the article's talk page so I know to leave it alone this time.
If you’d like to discuss this, or anything else, please leave me a message at the bottom of my talk page. --barneca (talk) 12:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
