[edit] POV

This article is terribly biased. This article has definitely been written by an employee of Bartaman or someone who is anti-CPI(M). A neutral point of view is necessary about the govt. of WEst Bengal.

[edit] Shocked

I am shocked that we have allowed wikipedia to turn into an advertising agency for a totally POVish article selling a newspaper. The article was in such a state that it didn't shock me that the article itself is directly linked from the newspaper, who I am sure were relishing the free publicity.

I have tagged many of the POV comments. If you have any objections please write here or they will be edited out. Thanks.--Antorjal 22:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Here are only a few examples of POV sections that I have either converted to NPOV or deleted.:
  • Bartaman is the only newspaper in West Bengal which did not participate in the bandwagon of glorifying the West Bengal government headed by Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. It is the sole newspaper which has relenlessly attempted to reveal the truth behind Left Front's overwhelming victories in the elections in West Bengal since 1977. Bartaman was the first Bengali daily which talked about scientific rigging, - how the ruling communists manipulate the electoral systems to retain power. But, many feels that this is just a cooked up story of Bartaman to retain its circulation among frustrated trinamool congress supportes.
  • Sopmetimes pen can really prove to be mightier than sword. Ever since its birth in December 1984, Bartaman continues to focus on the plight of deprived people of West Bengal. When other newspapers took the safest road of catering to the irresponsible neo-consumerist needs and bashing the left front government of West bengal, Bartaman continued with its severe protest. It has been relentless in revealing how the ruling communists are sucking West Bengal dry. For this blasphemy, the newspaper is unofficially banned in some parts of West Bengal. In many corners of Burdwan, Bankura and Birbhum, communist workers try to restrict the circulation of Bartaman. In areas like Keshpur (Midnapur), readers of Bartaman had been made social recluse.

For thousands of oppressed people Bartaman is not just a newspaper, it is a source of inspiration to build better and prosperous West Bengal. In other words, Bartaman is not just a Newspaper, it's a revolution right on the face of the hypocrite left front rulers of West bengal. --Antorjal 23:01, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

So its pro-BJP ? Any non-Secular thing related to Bengal is a wonder. Seeing this article brought my hopes up.Bakaman Bakatalk 23:42, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually it is not pro-BJP but rather pro Mamata Banerjee. However, it is "just another newspaper" and the assertions that were made on the article page require neutral citations regardless of what one's personal/political views are. --Antorjal 18:25, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Such lines cannot be added to wikipedia without proper citations. The tone of the article should also be neutral. Wikipedia isn't the place to use such language. It doesn't matter what the author's political view is like.

[edit] Editors please watch page vigilantly for POV-pushing

I would like to take this opportunity to note editors that this page is linked from the Bartaman Patrika home-page clearly because the editors feel wikipedia is a medium for adevertising. As such someone or somepeople (perhaps sympathesizing or affiliated with the newspaper?) keep changing the text to the unbiased advertising section they would like to see here. [edit] Badly written

Bartaman is a biased newspaper but so are many others. It is not only pro-Trinamul Congress but also toes the BJP line of distorting history by trying to degrade the achievements of the Christians and Brahmo Samaj. At the same time it has a circulation that is second only to Ananda Bazar Patrika and is much above the English dailies from Kolkata. The article needs to be more objective, stating both the good and bad points of the newspaper. Come on, great editors, do something about it. -- Seejee 11:19, 3 March 2007 (UTC) It is quite shocking to see an an article printed in Bartaman dated 31.8.07 regarding Deshapriya park Puja committe whereas the artcle has been clearly printed on the dictation of the local trinamul councillor Debashish Kumar of ward 85 citing the the support of the local people. The fact is we are the local people and our comments have alredy been interpreted by the columnist. It is well known that the local councillor is against the Durga puja Committee but that does not give any right for the columnist to print bias statements in his paper. We would as citizens of ward 85 certainly take up the issue legally to sue the columnist for writing an inflammatory remarks and being racist in order to gain political mileage through the local councillor of ward 85. It would be better for the columnist to find out in details the illegal financial transactions that the local councillor carries on in his ward and the illegal wealth he has amassed over the last seven years which are running into a few crores rather than write about a puja festival which is orgainsed for not more than four days in a year. I think we feel that the columnist has been paid huge sum of money by the local councillor to write this audicious, bias and racist comments regarding a Durga Puja Committee which is more than seventy years old.
