[edit] Thanks Barry

For screwing the ticketholders who wanted attend your retirement game. It was planned since the beginning of the 2004 season, and you had to wait until the last moment to change your mind. After 18 years with the Reds...way to go.

[edit] #11, Stilwell & Esasky

Wasn't it Kurt Stilwell (later of the KC Royals) and not Nick Esasky (usually played at 1B) that competed with Larkin for the Reds' SS position? I seem to recall that they also competed for the #11 jersey. The rivalry was rendered moot When Stilwell was traded to the Royals and the jersey became Larkin's for good. Stilwell presented Larkin with a #11 pendant on a gold chain in a gesture of sportsmanship and comraderie.

You are correct, Esasky never played SS for any major league team
