[edit] Removed unverified claims

Unsworth's election loss was attributed to his strong stance on gun control. At a Hobart conference in December 1987 he said somewhat prophetically, "There will never be uniform Gun Laws in Australia until we see a massacre somewhere in Tasmania. (A link to the "Adelaide Institute", a right wing website which appears to be run by a single person).

This was said prior to the appalling Port Arthur massacre in 1996 in Tasmania at which time gunman Martin Bryant murdered 35 people leading to stringent gun control laws being introduced in Australia.

I removed the above because I could not find any reputable sources to verify it. There are numerous google hits for the claim, but they all originate from pro-gun-rights groups, and I could not find one that came from a reliable source. At the moment it looks like an urban myth. A bit more research indicates that this "fact" was added by Ajayvius who appears to have a history of WP vandalism. A pity this bit of miscreance survived for so long (the change was made in April 2007). Manning (talk) 07:50, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
