As this novel is considered a seminal work of Canadian literature, I've rated it as High. According to Hugo MacPherson: it "ushered in the most productive period in the nation's writing, and it introduced a novelist who was to lead his contemporaries in a most absorbing quest." The Oxford Companion to Canadian Literature continues: "This quest was for a new relevance in fiction that would examine the Canadian consciousness." Any book in the New Canadian Library should rate as High at least.--Ibis3 16:03, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
