Talk:Barlanark
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whoever wrote that Hallhill road and Pendeen road were nice areas has obviously not been to Barlanark in a long time. I grew up there and the areas mentioned are plagued with crime. Drug and alcohol abuse are common in the area, as is gang culture. Depression is also rife amongst the mainly working-class and unemployed residents.
Barlanark saw a sudden influx of new, mostly poor, residents from Easterhouse in the late 1990's when redevelopment of Easterhouse forced many residents out into nearby neighbourhoods (my family included).
If anyone would like to amend this then please do - I don't have the time at the moment to gather sources and phrase my observations more academically.
What's wrong with Barlanark? It's a fanatstic place now and has changed a lot. Barlanark gets a bad rap still for it's gangster days. It's, doesn't help when a few of those gangters are mentioned in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jobbybum (talk • contribs) 20:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
