Barry Whitwam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jan Barry Whitwam (born 21 July 1946, in Prestbury, South Manchester) was the drummer for the band Herman's Hermits. Whitwam played the catchy drums on the single "I'm Henery the Eighth, I Am" and on numerous other Hermits' records but was replaced by session drummers on quite a few of the band's singles -- a practice common in the record industry then and now and in particular with producer Mickie Most. The same fate was suffered by other excellent 1960's drummers including Mick Avory of the Kinks, and even Ringo Starr on "Love Me Do."
