Barrhaven Centre Station (OC Transpo)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barrhaven Centre Station (also known as Marketplace Station) is a bus-stop located in Ottawa's transitway network. This stop is located in the centre of the community of Barrhaven in the city's south end near the intersection of Greenbank Road and Strandherd Drive. It is the terminal of certains Route 95 trips during weekdays

Initially, it was expected to be built as a traditional transitway and O-Train Station which would have been completed for 2009. Before the city's north-south light rail project was cancelled on December 14, 2006, Route 95 would have also intersected with the extended line near the area. It would have been the second connection between the two rapid-transit routes.

The stop is located beside an extensive commercial zone which contains big-box stores and department stores that were built over the past few years. It includes a shopping plaza called Riocan Marketplace, the name of the station. It is part of a significant transitway expansion plan by OC Transpo that will link the Southwest section to most of the developing residential areas that were (and will be) built. Nearby service is also provided by nearby Strandherd Station.
