Baron Selsey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title Baron Selsey, of Selsey, County Sussex, was created in the Peerage of Great Britain in 1794, for Sir James Peachey, Bt. who was Master of the Robes to King George III.

The baronetcy had been created in 1736 for the first baron's uncle, with a special remainder to pass to the latter's brother and his descendants.

Between 1738 and 1871 the Barons Selsey resided at West Dean House, in West Dean, West Sussex, until Henry John Peachy died without an heir and the name became extinct. The house has now become a College dedicated to the arts.

Both titles became extinct upon the death of the third baron in 1838.
