Barneston is a village in Gage County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 122 at the 2000 census.

Barneston is located at 40°2′55″N, 96°34′29″W (40.048656, -96.574614)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 122 people, 49 households, and 31 families residing in the village. The population density was 515.9 people per square mile (196.3/km²). There were 57 housing units at an average density of 241.0/sq mi (91.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.18% White and 0.82% Native American. Other races including Hispanics or Latinos were 3.28% of the population.

There were 49 households out of which 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 2.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 3.3% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $33,750, and the median income for a family was $40,625. Males had a median income of $31,429 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the village was $13,255. There were 10.3% of families and 14.2% of the population living below the poverty line, including 6.8% of under eighteens and 23.5% of those over 64.
