Barkal is located at 22.7333° N 92.3583° E . It has 4782 units of house hold and total area 760.88 km².

As of 1991 Bangladesh census^[1], Barkal has a population of 28839. Males constitute are 57.1% of the population, and females 42.9%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 15770. Barkal has an average literacy rate of 30.4% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[2]
