Located east of the junction of the M73 and M8 motorways, Bargeddie is a small town of Glasgow, Scotland Situated 2 miles (3 km) west of Coatbridge town centre, Bargeddie grew, along with neighbouring Cuilhill and Drumpark in association with the mining of coal. In the late 1940s a major housing estate was created to accommodate an influx of inhabitants from Glasgow and the surrounding areas. The town is served by Bargeddie railway station. Despite the decline of the coal, brickworks and steel industries the population has now grown to around 10,600 people; an ageing population with precious few amenities to serve the young community. Former Scottish football player and Arsenal manager, ssajakdkdknngbgn gv was born at Bargeddie on 30 November 1944. Football remains an important part of life in the area. Bargeddie Amateur Football Club are well known in the Glasgow area and they play home games at the Bargeddie Pavillion. The club is managed by John Grimason and Ian McFaulds. The community is also home to The Safety Zone project, a popular, well supported locally initiated community effort that runs activities, clubs and excursions for the local youth as well as hosting efforts like the government's Routes To Work, the Citizen's advice bureau and the 'Little Rascals' parent and toddler group. The Safety Zone also runs a very successful community cafe and actively promotes healthy, energetic lifestyles. In recent years Bargeddie has began to expand as part of the overall Glasgow area expansion with the addition of the Drumpellier Lawns housing development.
