Bare Knuckle Pickups

Bare Knuckle Pickups is a boutique pickup brand founded by Tim Mills and is located in North Devon in the South West UK. They make handwired pickups. They are very high regarded and are praised by many.

Bareknuckle feature many different pickup types, for many different styles. They divide them into three categories, Vintage, Vintage- Hot and Contemporary. All the pickups are named after different persons, songs or bands. The Vintage pickups are based on classic desings and made to replicate classic sounds of classic blues and rock, such as "The Mule" humbucker, which is named after Gov't Mule, based the classic PAF design, they are very accurate replicas, scatterwound, using vintage correct materials and Alnico II or IV magnets. Others include the "PG Blues" set, based on the "out of phase" tone of Peter Green or the "Apache" Single coils, based on the classic 50's Strat tone of Hank Marvin. The Vintage- Hot are based classic rock and hard rock tones, such as the "VHII" humbucker, to replicate the classic Eddie Van Halen brown sound or the "Irish Tour" single coil, replicating the overwound Strat tone of Rory Gallagher or Stevie Ray Vaughan and the "Brown Sugar" Telecaster single coil, based on Keith Richard's tone. The Contemporary pickups are based after modern sounds, such as the "Miracle Man", based on EMG pickups, but are passive to deliver more dynamics or the original Nailbomb deisgn, described as "chaos in a pickup". They also sell other types, such as P90s and the humbucker sized P90 "Mississippi Queen".

Bareknuckles have become very popular and users include Geoff Whitehorn and Steve Stevens, both with their own signature pickups. Other famous users include Gary Moore, Matt Belamy of Muse, Dan Hawkins of The Darkness, Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Lenny Kravitz and many guitar manufactuers.
