[edit] History
Barcode was launched in Vauxhall, South London, in 2003, and was originally the sister label of the widely popular Renegade Hardware, supported under TOV Music Group Ltd. Initially, Barcode was distributed by Alphamagic[1], but later moved to SRD[2] (Southern Record Distributors).
Barcode's initial business was as a platform and tool to help establish up-and-coming artists within the scene. Project management and A&R was originally handled by Chris Acworth (a former employee of TOV Music Group Ltd), who later moved on in 2006 to create his own imprints Lifted Music, and Breed 12 Inches.
Early Barcode successes included albums Us Against The World [3] (Barcode’s debut full length LP) and Shades Of Black[4]. Barcode also handled early Chase & Status, Spor and Evol Intent releases, some of which are now considered classics of their respective genres.
As of January 15, 2008, Barcode Recordings is now under new ownership and management[5]. Founder and CEO of Renegade Hardware Ltd, Clayton Hines, sold Barcode in order to focus and strengthen his Hardware brand and Breakin' Science Ltd events company. Ownership and rights to Barcode were acquired by Cyall Victor after his two year contract as Label Manager and A&R of Renegade Hardware expired in January 2008.
