Barbara Savage and her husband Larry Savage decided to step out of their jobs for two years starting in 1978 to tour the world on their bicycles. They traveled through 25 countries. Barbara wrote an account of their experiences in the book Miles from Nowhere. that was published by "The Mountaineers" out of Seattle, Washington.
Barbara Savage was killed on her bike from head injuries while bicycing near Santa Barbara, California just before her book was published. Her publisher and husband Larry set up a "Miles from Nowhere" Memorial Award for first time authors of personal, non-fiction accounts of muscle powered adventures.
