Barbara Lifton

Barbara Lifton represents District 125 in the New York State Assembly, which includes Tompkins County in its entirety, as well as Cortland, New York, Cortlandville, Ithaca, New York and Virgil, New York.
For fourteen years prior to entering the Assembly she served as the Chief of Staff to former Assemblyman Marty Luster. Prior to that she was an English teacher in the Geneseo Central School, 1976-1982, and subsequently a teacher in the Ithaca public school system, 1985-1988. She also served for two years on the Cornell/Community Waste Management Committee.
She holds a B.A. in English a teacher certification, and an M.A. in English from SUNY-Geneseo.
