Bao'an District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bao'an County was the predecessor of the modern city of Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

Bao'an District (Chinese: 宝安区, Pinyin: Bǎo'ān Qū) is one of the six districts comprising Shenzhen, a major economic city in Guangdong Province, China. It is one of two districts lying outside the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, alongside Longgang. With 5 million people, Bao'an is Shenzhen's largest district.

The district is the site of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (深圳宝安国际机场).

Bao'an District contains ten subdistricts: Baocheng (宝城), Xixiang (西乡), Longhua (龙华), Guanlan (观澜), Gungming (公明), Songjiang (松岗), Guangming (光明), Shajing (沙井), Fuyong (福永) and Shiyan (石岩).

Bao'an has a notoriously bad security record. Since the turn of the millennium the district has seen a string of high-profile abductions, robberies, and other cases of violent crime (source: SCMP 2005-12-31, see below).
