Bant community

Bant is a prominent community originally from the Tulunadu region of Karnataka in India.

They are regionally divided:

  • Jain Bunt: descendants of the ruling Jain clans with surnames are like Alva, Hegde, Banga, Konde, Ajila etc.
  • Maasaadika Bunt: Tulu speaking, mostly settled in the Southern part of South Kanara from Udupi to Kasaragod.
  • Naadavas or Nadabunts Bunt: Kannada Speaking, from northern parts of South Kanara from Brahmavar to Baindoor.
  • Parivaara Bunt: from northern side. They follow Brahmin culture.
