The Bangalore Open (sponsored name: Canara Bank Bangalore Open) is a tennis tournament held in Bangalore, India. The tournament began in Hyderabad in 2003, and moved to Bangalore in 2006. This WTA Tour event is a Tier II-tournament and is played on outdoor hardcourts. After being promoted to the second tier in 2008, WTA chief Larry Scott announced that he would reconsider the tournament's position for the 2009 calendar. Scott called conditions in Bangalore "minimally adequate" for a Tier II event.[1]

The 2008 edition was won by 26-year old, 8 time grand-slam champion Serena Williams, who defeated the fourth-seeded Swiss Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-3, in the finals, winning her 29th WTA Tour title.[2]
