Standing tall at over seven feet, Bana is a balladeer from Cape Verde and an interpreter of the morna, the plaintive, melodic lament which is a staple musical style of this island nation off the coast of West Africa.
Bana's career in music began during Portuguese colonial rule, when he served as a handyman and bodyguard for the legendary Cabo Verdean composer and performer, B. Leza.
