Balassagyarmat (Slovak: Balážske Ďarmoty) is a town in northern Hungary. It was the seat of the Nógrád comitatus.

The town lies on the left bank of the Ipoly river, which makes border with Slovakia. The town has a population of 17,704 as of 2005.
