Bad Reputation is a 1981 reissue of the 1980 self-titled debut album by Joan Jett. The original 1980 album was independently released by Jett and it eventually gained enough attention that it was re-released through the Boardwalk Records label. Bad Reputation is identical to Joan Jett in terms of tracklisting.
In 1999, the album was again re-issued, this time on CD with several bonus tracks and a remastered version of the original album.
Also in 1999, the song "Bad Reputation" was used for the opening theme sequence of the critically acclaimed but short-lived NBC series Freaks & Geeks. A version of the song by Halfcocked appeared on the soundtrack to the 2001 animated film Shrek.
The song was covered by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne on her "Best Damn Tour" and is also attached to the single "The Best Damn Thing".
