[edit] Same thing in the US

I am a graduate of a technology degree. A Bachelor of Technology from the City College of NY. I can get certification with my degree after 6 years of experience. The problem is that half the engineers don't know what my degree is and the other half don't give it credit. I would suggest that if you can, and I would check the laws on this, try to get your masters in engineering. You will have to make up a lot of credits. This way you can at least say you have an engineering degree. I don't know if your licensing takes experience credits but that would be your other option. Working up from the bottom started as a drafter which may allow you to prove yourself in your firm. Civil is tough, I studied electromechanical technology for my bachelor and Computer tech for my Associates. I have had a whole slew of electronic and IT jobs. I don't know what civil eng jobs that would need a technologist. Ed from NY

[edit] Comparison between B.Tech and B.E or B.Sc Engineering

I got your problem regarding the recognition of B.Tech degrees in Pakistan especially. I and my other fellows are working on this issue voluntarily on the platform of the "Pakistan Technologist Community (PTC)" and its official email address is paktechnologist@yahoo.com ..... Please email us to get the detail answer of all of your queries.

The basic difference between the B.Tech and B.E is the Mathematics. The curriculam of the B.E possesses the mathematics in deep while focusing on to build the mind for research and development. Whereas the curriculam of the B.Tech possesses the light mathematics comparatively while focusing on to build the mind for operation and maitenance. Therefore both the degrees should not be confused as these are not exactly the same but at par or equivalent building block.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC - www.hec.gov.pk) recognizes the B.Tech (Hons) at par with the B.E or B.Sc Engineering degree transparently.

Now the president of Pakistan has revised the act of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEc) www.pec.org.pk and instructed it to register the B.Tech holders as "Technologist" rather than the "Professional Engineer" by giving them the same status. Hopefully the PEC will invite the applications from all the B.Tech degree holders for registration.

Remember that the PEC is nothing but just the recognized engineering council by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).

Hope you all would understand and it will fullfill your desire. If you have any further query, please do not hesitate to contact me on this email id.
