Baba Buddha, was one of closest companions of the guru Nanak (the first Guru of Sikhism) and is one of the most revered and sacred saints in Sikhism. He holds one of the most important and pivotal positions in Sikh history. The first head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Baba Buddha Ji was alive during many of the Sikh guru's lives. He was nicknamed "Buddha" by Guru Nanak Dev because although he was a young boy, he had the wisdom and knowledge of an old man.

Baba Budha Ji ia also credited with starting the martial tradition of the Sikhs. The Budha Dal Nihang Singsh attribute their beginnings to Baba Budha Ji himself.
