Baal-Eser II

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baal-Eser II (also known as Balbazer II) (863 - 829 BCE) was a king of Tyre, the son of Ithobaal I

Baal-Eser reigned at the height of Tyrian influence in the affairs of the Levant. During his reign, his sister was queen of Israel and his niece reigned as queen for a period in Judah, creating a zone of Tyrian influence unrivalled at any period in its history.

Tyrians, while not present themselves, were one of the most important groups who supported the anti-Assyrian forces against Shalmaneser III at the Battle of Qarqar in 855 BCE.[citation needed]

Also called Baalmazzar, he paid tribute to Shalmaneser in 842, during the latter's campaign in Canaan (cf. Jehu paid tribute at the same time, as shown on the Black Obelisk.) [1]
