Saw Ba U Gyi was the first President of the Karen National Union. He is well known as the founding Father of the Karen Revolution. Ba U Gyi graduated with a law degree in England and has been considered the most influential Karen Revolutionary Leader ever.
The Karens regard Ba U Gyi's four principles as the guiding Principles of the Revolution:
- There shall be no surrender.
- The recognition of the Karen State must be completed.
- We shall retain our arms.
- We shall decide our own political destiny.
