  1. ^ Overtime rules in college football were introduced in 1996, making ties impossible.
  2. ^ The AP Poll was introduced in 1934. Thus, there are no polls for previous seasons.
  3. ^ The Coaches Poll was introduced in 1950. Therefore, polls for prior seasons do not exist.
  4. ^ North State Conference became the Carolinas Conference in 1961.
  5. ^ Conference USA split into two divisions in 2005. This number indicates the division ranking.
