All leaders have their own personal goals and agendas. Most of them are good ambitions, and many try hard to fulfill their goals. On the other hands, other leaders may may falter under pressure or the realization of their own power. Nevertheless, the majority want to make a great leader. To be a good leader it is important to manage one's followers well. They have certain expectations of their leader. The most important part of being a leader is to put the good of the people before personal interests and agendas.

Personal interests generally only benefit one's self. A person who is a leader may have wants that will only earn him or her gratitude. It gets to the point of being bad where the personal agendas can only be accomplished via the abuse of one's followers. For example, using hundreds of thousands of dollars for personal gratitude is not considered a good thing for a leader to do. Oftentimes, however, such activity is kept in secrecy from the people. It is when the activities are exposed that a scandal breaks loose. That is one reason why a good leader should keep his own personal wants in check and not overlook the needs of the people.

Any leader obviously would want the people to be happy to have him or her as a leader. Obviously, their needs would have to be met for them to be happy. Their needs can range from very trivial things to very big demands. The larger the demands, the more stress it can put on a leader, but eventually the greater reward if they can accomplish it. That is why it takes so much to be a great leader. Only the best and ambitious ones can go on to become a great leader. That is why meeting the peoples' needs is an important part to being a leader.

Persistently being a negative leader can take a huge toll eventually. No group of people would want to go on with a poor leader. Eventually, this will lead to a leader's downfall. A leader who doesn't tend to the people but neglects them and focuses on his own needs will become more and more unpopular. Eventually, a new leader will be chosen. That is yet another reason why it is important to place the peoples' needs before a leader's own needs.

Basically, a great leader will always make sure he leads the people in the right path. Personal interests only benefit one's self. A good leader would want his people to be happy. And worst of all, a poor leader will eventually be replaced. These are reasons why a good leader should remember what being a successful leader is all about.
