Author: Azhakath Tharavad Azhakath is one of the famous Nair families of south Kerala. This tharavad is more than 500 years old.The tharavad is located at Chavara south, in the Kollam district of Kerala state, India. The Head of the family is known as Karanavar.The Karanavar of the family is a member of Ettara yogam of Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple (only Nair rep:) The present Karanavar is Srikarnam Palliyadi A.E. Ramakrishnakurup of Adoor. Mahakavi Azhakath Padmanabhakurup author of Ramachandravilasam mahakavyam, Malayali Ramakurup ( Malayali newspaper) belonges to this family.The family members are now spread across the world. many membres are now located in Thiruvananthapuram. The temples of this family are located in Chavara(south) as well as Thottiyode near Nagarkoil, Tamil nadu. Azhakath Sreekarna Dharmastanam Trust now manages the temples
