[edit] Shikkari, shikkari, shikkari...

One of Osaka's character songs is Shikkari! Try La Lai. But the translation of "shikkari" is "get it together", so isn't the English title Get it Together! Try La Lai and not Well! Try La Lai? Warberd 05:00, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Osenmikocha

I've searched around and never found any references or even speculative comments as to why Osaka thought that the term "Osenmikocha" she found applied to a shrine on Okinawa was rib-splittingly hilarous. Anyone heard anything? Yanqui9 21:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Off the top of my head, "Osen" sounds like hot spring, "Miko" sounds like shrine maiden/shamaness, and "cha" sounds like tea. It's a pun, it sounds vaguely morbid, and it gives rise to strange mental images--perfect for Osaka. That's just my guess, though. Nagakura shin8 10:09, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Importance of character

The article is no more than a synopsis of Osaka's exploits in the series. It needs a description and real world context justifying Osaka having her own Wikipedia entry. I have therefore made a first attempt at these by adding a description and context to the initial pararaph. (As an example of the type of material which should be included in an initial paragraph on a fictional character, see Sherlock_Holmes). Samatarou 23:12, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I suspect the original justification was that it got too large for the main article. Now all we need is this sort of stuff for the other seven character profiles.

That said, though, that narcolepsy claim is original research -- there's nothing in the series itself to justify that diagnosis over any other. —Quasirandom 00:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Indeed, I've cut the references to narcolepsy and Attention Defect Disorder. The application of psychiatric diagnoses as explanations for character traits in fictional characters is something that annoys me no end, and is wildly inappropriate in this case. I certainly don't dispute that Osaka deserves her own page, however I'm not convinced this is necessary for all the characters. The only characters I've noticed being referred to / depicted independently of the series are Osaka, Chiyo-chan and the yellow cat, the others don't seem to get used or namechecked in the same way. I can't say I disagree. Certainly, those are the ones with the most wikilinks to their character page. As I've been trying to edit the character pages into something coherent, these past few days, I've been getting more dissatisfied with them, and I think you've put your finger on why. Osaka is quite unlike anyone presented in the character panarama of anime, in the sense that her qualities are usually not presented nor thought of in that cherished manner in any kind of media. This is one of the significances of Osaka's own page. A relevant character guide is Azumanaga Character Bios. Nyamo-sensei is actually a common recurring character phenotype in anime (i.e. Miyuki Kobayakawa from You're Under Arrest - Miyuki, to contrast with Osaka's non-ubiquitiousness.
