Ayukai clan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ayukai clan (鮎貝氏 Ayukai-shi?) was a relatively lowly family of direct descent from Fujiwara Yasuchika, rising to a level of notability by the Sengoku Period of Feudal Japan. Conjectively seating themselves within the Yokogashi District of Mutsu province, initially before the beginning of the 16th century, they temporarily adopted the name of their respective district as their own surname. Moving to the Ayukai District of Mutsu at a later time, they stationed themselves within the Ayukai castle--adopting 'Ayukai' as their new surname--at which they suffered from occasional rifts between the two clashing power of Date and Mogami, effectively causing their domain to fall by the year of 1587. At such a present time, the leading head of Ayukai--Moritsugu--initially sent his second son to become a retainer under the Date so that their neutrality may be fixed with a level of influence and power and that their safety will be ensured. Following this event, the Ayukai evolved to higher position under the Date and respectively showed an intense display of loyalty towards this clan -- willingly supporting their name, even until the Meiji Restoration, at which they became drifters as a result to the government's reformation after the Tokugawa Shogunate's end.
