Autonomic Computing is best defined as self-managing systems. Self-managing systems are ones that are self-configuring, self-healing, self-optimizing, and self-protecting. Autonomic Computing has spawned an industry-wide initiative aimed at reducing the complexity of technology in order to enable the full realization of the benefits possible from a given technology or set of technologies that together form a system. A useful analogy is the human autonomic nervous system that manages many complex functions enabling humans to focus on higher level tasks.

Surely the above is just a facile marketing opportunity and IPsoft should be ashamed of themselves for using a global encyclopaedia in such a way! If they want to do so they should create an impartial entry in the normal way, as everyone else does.

[edit] BENEFITS OF AUTONOMIC COMPUTING

“Autonomic Computing” is the fixing of IT issues automatically without human intervention. Such a feature is enabled via an historical knowledge base which correlates layers of IT and how they inter-relate.

The 2 main benefits of Autonomic Computing are:

1. better uptime as issues are resolved quicker

2. reduced IT costs as less human resource is required

What are the rules governing sections like in "Autonomic Systems" where the "human operator" is given the pronoun "he"? Isn't this outdated convention?
