Talk:Automobile emissions control

I've noticed that "1.1 Increasing engine efficiency" is blank. If no one is willing to write paragraphs on engine efficiency, putting some links should be a good placeholder until someone writes something. Links such as:

- Linking to the ECU article is a good idea, but catalytic converters do not increase engine efficiency, so it should not go under that heading. Shawn D. 12:23, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Two Catalytic Converters
I have a 1997 Mazda Protege which has a problem. I am pretty sure that it is a catalytic converter but does my car have two of them? I would go somewhere else to ask this question but no where on the Internet can I find any detailed information about my car -- not even the library has anything! 68.18.180.95 21:13, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Spark optimizer
Spark optimizer- sounds like an advertisement of a commercial product to me.
[edit] High emissions
I recently bought a 2002 VW Passat, 130 BHP. it has 110,000 miles on the clock. When i "put the boot down" or when the engine is at high revs, there is a lot of black smoke (not blue), more than what normally should be emitted. I don't think the car has been chipped even though, in my opinion, its has more "go" than what a 130BHP car should. Any suggestions for high levels of black smoke? (the car averages 45mpg, fuel efficincy is good)
- It'd be more appropriate to ask that on any number of VW message boards (i.e. [1]), but black smoke indicates an over-rich mixture. As long as the plugs aren't fouling and the MPG is good, it's not a problem. Shawn D. 12:23, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
