Automobile repair shop

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An automobile repair shop (also known as a garage) is a place where automobiles are repaired by auto mechanics. Some auto parts stores also maintain service operations.

Examples include Pep Boys, Walmart, and Sears Auto Center.

Automobile repair shop usually refers to independently owned and operated businesses or regional or national chains and franchises. Examples of chains and franchises include Midas and Firestone Complete Auto Care.

A third type of repair shop is the service departments of car dealerships. These shops are the only ones authorized to perform warranty and recall repairs by the manufacturers and distributors, excepting in the European Union.

Automobile repair shops can be specialty shops like muffler shops, transmission specialists, body shops, and tire shops. Examples include MAACO and AAMCO. There are also independently-owned specialists who work only on specific makes of cars. Examples include European car specialists and BMW repair specialists.
