Automated parking
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Automated parking garages adapt the technology used in automated warehouses to create highly efficient parking garages that provide more than twice as much parking in the same space as a traditional ramp-style parking garage.
Automated parking garages have been successful in Europe and Asia for many years and are now a growing market in the US. As of 2007, there are three existing automated parking garages in the U.S. (Hoboken, NJ, Washington D.C. and Manhattan, NY).
Automated parking garages are environmentally friendly solutions because cars are parked with their engines off, reducing emissions from cars looking to find a parking space. Real estate developers are catching on to this trend because it lets projects become more profitable, with less space required for parking, they can use more space for residential, retail or other commercial purposes.
