[edit] Incorrect claim

"...one of only two countries to have sent athletes to every Olympic Games". Has Australia sent athletes to every Winter games? I can't find any evidence of Australians at the 1924 games for example. Molinari 02:19, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Oops! In Australia, Olympics generally means Summer Olympics, mainly because we are so crap at Winter Olympic sports :) I've corrected the article. Another minor anomaly is that the 1908 and 1912 games were combined Australia/NZ teams, under the name Australasia, I'll try to work this into the article as well. -- Chuq 02:45, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I'm asking about this quote, too -- what's the other one? It's not exactly about Australia, but it might be worth saying "along with ___" so the curious don't have to search through all the country entries! Mariko

I think it's Greece? Most of the heavyweights (USA, USSR/Russia, etc.) seem to get caught up in boycotts and so on. -- Chuq 10:28, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Russia (USSR, Unified) didn't even start competing regularly until 1952 (only three times before then). Since then, it has missed only the boycotted L.A. 1984 games.

According to the Great Britain at the 2004 Summer Olympics page, the UK has had a team at every games from 1896 onwards ("the only country to have sent competitors to every summer and winter games since the birth of the modern Olympics in 1896." is the quote). I've also heard it said about Greece, and given how neutral they've generally been during the 20th century, it wouldn't surprise me. That said, the page for Greece at these games doesn't expressly say that. BigHaz 11:35, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, GB's 2000 page Great Britain at the 2000 Summer Olympics, says one of three, previously identified as Greece and Oz. Reasonably confident that Greece showed up at the Athens Olympics, seem to recall us fronting up also.

The United Kingdom (under the name GB), Greece, and Australia (including the two Australasia teams) have appeared at every Summer Olympics. I've updated the page to indicate that. Five have missed only one (France, Sweden, and Denmark missed St. Louis 1904, Austria was excluded from Antwerp 1920, and the United States boycotted Moscow 1980). -- Jonel 14:39, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
