Justice Augustus Molade Akiwumi was a judge and also the second Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana.

[edit] Early life

Augustus Akiwumi was born in Nigeria but became a naturalised Ghanaian. [1] In 1910 he was sent to live with guardians, a Smith family of Crosby, Cumbria in England. He attended Queen's College, Taunton, Somerset.[1] He proceeded to the Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University, where he studied law.[1] He also trained as a banker at the Midland Bank, Ludgate Hill, London, prior to his return to Ghana.

He was called to the bar at the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in 1921.[1] He was appointed Speaker of the Parliament in February 1958 in the First Republic of Ghana.[2]

Akiwumi married Helen Kabuki Ocansey, a Ghanaian. She was a teacher educated in England.[1]
