Audius Mtawarira’s musical career started while he was at Peter House School in Marondera as a member of the school choir where he played the guitar, drums and piano. As a form two pupil, Audius had fallen in love with musical instruments and developed a liking for composing songs.

In 1994, Audius met Delani Makhalima and Mr Bell who were students from Gateway High School, Harare and formed the group, Cliché that sang and played R ‘n’ B like Boyz II Men. Two years later, the members went separate ways in search of professional careers. Audius left for Australia where he studied graphic arts design at Curtin University, Perth.

During his study at university, Audius did the club circuit in the Perth and founded his own label Legit’s A&R team and set out to promote his music with the album Basic that did quite well on the club circuit. With Legit’s A&R team, Audius rose to become one of Australia’s best songwriters, producers and performers.

In 2003, he produced and co-wrote with Delta Goodrem the award winning single, “Born To Try”, co-wrote with Selwyn the songs “Buggin’ Me and Way Love’s Supposed To Be” that went gold as well as Entourage. Then armed with about 350 songs he had written, he approached Sony Publishing who agreed to record some the songs. The first single was “If Only You Knew” that was released in 2002 Sony Publishing subsequently employed Audius as a songwriter but his music is being marketed by Sony Music South Africa, a fact that at one time made the world to mistake him for a South African artiste. So far, Audius has worked with Joe Thomas, Anita Baker, Puff Johnson and Alicia Keys. Audius was born in Guruve, about 150 km north of Harare.
