In Belgium and in France, unfortunately, you cannot take a photo of certain buildings without violating the copyright of the architect. Stupid law, but it's the law. In the U.S., however, copyright does not extend to architects when their buildings are photographed. In the U.S., this image would be copyright its photographer, who has released the photo under the GFDL. In Belgium and in France, it would be a copyvio. Since Wikipedia's servers are in the U.S., U.S. law applies. I wouldn't put this image on the Commons or on the French Wikipedia, however. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 14:07, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
The location of the servers has nothing to do with the jurisdiction. --131.234.243.104 09:13, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Licensing

Why is the image "Atomium-sm.jpg" not licensed under the GFDL? --88.76.234.192 17:12, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Why is the template "Non-free 3D art" used on the image description page of "Atomium-sm.jpg"? --88.76.234.192 17:12, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
