I am unsure how to flag questions about statements in these articles, so I hope someone sees my comments here and either corrects the entry accordingly or deletes my comments if I am wrong. I wonder what definition of "public institution" is being used. I am the minister of Scots' Church in the city centre and I know that our congregation, together with many others, was started well before the Athenaeum - in fact, our first minister Rev James Farbes was instrumental in starting the Mechanics Institute AFTER he founded the church. Are churches not considered to be "public institutions"?).
