I, Michael Sloan (Bot_Builder), produced this file using inkscape and the gimp. It shows an "at" sign developing from the various ways of writing "à" - it illustrates the point made in the history of the sign section of this article as to how the sign emerged from the rapid, and then stylised writing by merchants of this symbol current in English and French commerce because of the prevalence of Norman terms in civil law.
