[edit] History
Athelstane Public School was officially opened in 1952. [1] Since 1930, the Wilson Road Public School had operated in the grounds of the Salvation Army Home on the corner of Wollongong Road and Wilson Road. In 1949, the Department of Education purchased the 'Athelstane' estate on Wollongong Road, between Dowling Street and Athelstane Avenue. The school operated from both sites from the following year.

In 1997 the school received a Director General's Award in recognition of its programs promoting Inclusive Education. [2]
